Happy Friday!!!! Ok, so it is spring out there and even though here in Vancouver doesn't feel like it yet, it is that time of the year where some of us like to re-decorate our homes and bring a bit of the colours of nature inside. These thoughts bring me into this debate of fresh vs faux flowers. Although I absolutely love fresh cut flowers, the whole idea of buying new flowers every week can get a bit pricey and time consuming, that is why some times silk flowers are not a bad idea. Nowadays you can find pretty good quality silk flowers that pretty much look real! A few years back I couldn't stand to look at fake flowers, I thought they were ugly, the colours were not right and some of them looked so plastic and absolutely fake. When I got into home staging I found myself in the need to decorate with fake flowers, because I believe nothing finishes up a room better than a beautiful arrangement of flowers (of course fresh flowers will be a million times better!) however in a new built home, where no body lives there full time, it will be so hard to get fresh flowers as they will dry out and get droopy, and lets be honest... Who wants to see that, first thing when walking thru a staged home for sale?. This is why I started to turn around and looked for the best looking faux flowers out there to place in my staged homes, now I use them all the time, they help make a statement and I don't have to look after them! In my home I use a bit of both, I really like the low maintenance flowers and with my busy life I don't really have time to stay on top of fresh flowers regularly so most of the time I opt for the faux kind! Five tips to get the best out of your faux flowers:
I love this beautiful combination of fresh and faux flowers that Randi from Randi Garrett Designs created at the entrance of her home. I bet you can't even tell which ones are real and which are the fake ones! I placed this orchid planter in this home to create a barrier between the end of the stairs and the front door as my clients believed in bad feng shui when your stairs face your front door. These are a few different ways I have styled faux flowers in the homes I have staged before. This gorgeous orchid arrangement I bought from Costco looks incredibly real!! Even the cashier at Costco kept asking if it was real and kept touching it because she couldn't believe me when I told her it was fake, haha it was quite funny! Any way, that is my take on faux flowers vs fresh flowers! What is yours? Do you like them or dislike them? Do you use them or do you have any tips to share with me? Please leave your comments below! I would love to read your thoughts. Till next time, XO!
Happy Monday Everyone!! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, wishing you all a great week ahead!! I am sharing with you one of my favourite accent chairs in the market right now, known as The Spindle Chair. I have been seeing this chair for a while, and every time I say... I love this chair! There are a lot of companies that carry the same style of chair, maybe slightly different in some aspects and different prices too! Here are my top 5 picks of this awesome looking chair: Overstock.com offers this beautiful version of the spindle chair from Studio Designs, it is done in this dark brown finish with your choice of Dark Taupe or Latte seat and back cushion colours. It is 10% off right now... ONLY $377.99! ZGallerie has this great version of the chair, it can be purchased with the matching ottoman and it is done in a cream white finish with a natural colour back and seat cushion. Price for this set is $599 for the chair and $299 for the ottoman. Horchow.com carries this gorgeous one on their website by Old Hickory Tannery, it is called Ellsworth Natural Spindle-Back chair. It has beautiful studs on the arms and the edge of the seat. It is made in the US with Italian materials and it is definitely priced higher than the other two chairs I've shown you. Now on sale for $1699. Basset Furniture offers a custom made chair called the Pippa accent chair and they have over 150 colours and fabric options you can choose from and since this is a customizable chair, price is available upon request. And last, but definitely not least I love this design offered by The Cross Design and Decor. The chair is called Loft Chair Grey Wash and just like the name, it's finished in a grey wash tone with a flax colour fabric. What I like about this chair that makes it unique and different from the others is that the back is tufted and the seat and back cushions are attached to the chair. There is also studs along the arms and seat edge. This chair sells for $2175 CAD What do you guys think? Which chair is your favourite? There is definitely one for every budget and colour preference!! Enjoy the week, XO!

Happy Sunday All!! I have been wanting to share with you this Ikea hack I've seen on different sites. Last year I really wanted to get two coffee tables side by side for my living room but didn't want them break the bank. As we all know coffee tables can be very expensive and needing two was going to be even more money. After doing some research, I kept seeing this Vittsjo coffee tables spray painted gold and I decided to give it a try!! I was very surprised to find out how fast and easy it was to get my tables done and how great they looked in the end. Here is what you will need:
Some people like to cover the bottom shelf with marble contact paper to give it that faux marble look, the other thing you can do, is to get a mirror piece custom cut for the bottom part of the table and this is a great look as well. I personally liked the white shelf and left it that way. You can use these tables together as nesting tables or you can use the smaller ones as end tables in the same room or in a different room. I decided to use the smaller tables as nightstands for our spare bedroom : ) I did these tables last summer and I have to say that after cleaning them and using them every day, the paint is beginning to wear off of the edges so I will be re-finishing them this spring as soon as is warm outside. Overall I am really happy with the finished product and I get lots of complements on them!! What do you think? If you are looking for affordable, beautiful tables, I highly recommend giving this Ikea hack a try!!
Today, I want to talk about my absolute favourite style of furniture right now. I can't help it but to fall in love with almost every acrylic and lucite piece of furniture I see!! This awesome trend that has been going on strong for a while and will continue to do so, is so cool to look at and at the same time I find it super useful when it comes to smaller spaces as it takes up very little visual space. The acrylic resin known by the trade names Lucite and Plexiglas is crystal clear, flexible and durable, has inspired countless designers, from Gilbert Rohde to Karl Springer and Charles Hollis Jones in the '60s and '70s. Photo Credit: Massimo Interiors Aside from actual furniture pieces, one of the details I absolutely adore is the acrylic and lucite legs on sofas and accent chairs. I have been wanting to buy one of these pieces but timing has not being right and they could be a bit pricey. However, as I was doing some research for this post I came across a few places that sell the actual lucite and acrylic legs by themselves!! OMG!! I was freaking out, I have a pair of charcoal velvet accent chairs that would look amazing with these kind of legs, so now I have added this project to my to do list. These are some of my favourite lucite and acrylic designs for the home: That is all for today!! See you next blog :)
Happy Friday Everyone!! This month I am bringing to you a Beautiful East Coast Traditional Estate currently listed by Sotheby's International Realty. This home is a newly built and it is located in the heart of the desirable Riviera section of Pacific Palisades. The grand interiors perfectly combine elegant and casual sophistication with a floor plan that is perfectly suited for today's lifestyle.
This home has a great entertaining area with an open plan concept featuring a gourmet kitchen with centre island, breakfast area and adjacent family room that opens to the outdoor dining room, living room and a great size pool. Stunning formal living room with a fireplace as well as a formal dining room could be found near the front entrance of the home. Spectacular master suite with sitting area, fireplace, custom dressing room and spa-like bath. There is also five additional bedroom suites as well as a movie theater, wine cellar, gym, indoor spa and sauna. Definitely one of the features on this house that caught my attention was the lighting design choices around the whole house. My absolute favourite was the light fixtures in the foyer and going down the stairs. What do you think of this gorgeous house? I am definitely dreaming of warmer weather with a house like this, hopefully is not long before we see a change in the season, cause I've had enough of the cold and snow in Vancouver!! Till next blog... XO!
